Support for new Free West Papua office in Australia
There have been expressions of support from Indonesia’s Papua region
for the opening of a Free West Papua Campaign office in the
Australian
city of Perth. The UK-based West Papuan independence activist and Nobel
Peace Prize nominee Benny Wenda officially opened the office on Sunday.
The National Committee for West Papua, the KNPB, reports that a
series of events were held around Papua region to coincide with the
opening of the office. Hundreds of West Papuans in towns such as
Manokwari, Timika and Merauke reportedly celebrated the development in
Perth.
The Campaign also has offices in England, the Hague, Netherlands and Papua New Guinea.
